President Milanović Receives Representatives of Međimurje County and Čakovec County Hospital, which Celebrated its Centenary
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović has received today representatives of the Čakovec County Hospital and Međimurje County, the present-day founder of the hospital, on the occasion of the centenary of its establishment. The Čakovec County Hospital was founded in 1922 as the first organized healthcare institution in Međimurje. Last year, on its 100th anniversary, a monograph was published that presents a historical overview of healthcare in Međimurje.
In its one hundred years of operation, the Čakovec County Hospital has become a reputable healthcare institution with over 900 employees, where several thousand patients are treated every month, it was said at the meeting. Hospital Director Igor Šegović, MD, pointed out that the staff are very proud of their hospital. The representatives of the Čakovec County Hospital presented the institution to President Milanović, informing him about the development plans and new projects, which include a new laboratory health area, energy-efficient renovation, renovation of the Department of Neurology, as well as an expansion plan of the Department of Interventional Cardiology.
Međimurje County Prefect Matija Posavec emphasized that the residents of Međimurje are emotionally attached to the County Hospital, adding that Međimurje County is the only county that has all health institutions located in one place. County Prefect Posavec warned that the government is once again trying to centralize healthcare institutions with a new law that is already in parliamentary procedure. We are not in favour of the government’s intention to nationalise the Čakovec County Hospital, because then we will lose the ability to make decisions, said County Prefect Posavec, explaining that the local authorities know and understand the needs of the local population best.
The delegation of the Čakovec County Hospital included, apart from Hospital Director Igor Šegović, Deputy Hospital Director Danko Blažeka, Assistant Directors Valerija Korent, Sven Pal, Lana Križarić and Sandra Novak, as well as the Head of the Unit for Ensuring and Improving Healthcare Renata Pongrac, Head of the Service Department Boža Škvorc, Head of the Technical and IT Department Alojz Nestić and the Head Nurse of the Paediatrics Department Dijana Farkaš. Apart from the county prefect, the Međimurje County delegation was composed of the Vice President of the Međimurje County Assembly Ivica Baksa, Head of the Međimurje County Administrative Department of Health and Social Welfare Sonja Tošić-Grlač and Assistant Head of the Office for County Prefect Affairs Petra Strahija.
Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education Jadranka Žarković was alongside President Milanović.
