President Milanović Meets with Matica Hrvatska Leadership

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today in the Office of the President the leadership of Matica Hrvatska. The President of Matica Hrvatska Miro Gavran and Vice Presidents Mario Jareb, academician Dubravka Oraić Tolić and Damir Zorić, presented the oldest and largest Croatian cultural institution to the President of the Republic.

Representatives of Matica Hrvatska informed President Milanović about the activities and goals of the institution’s new leadership, which was elected in November 2021. They also informed the President about plans to hold scientific conferences organized by Matica Hrvatska, the first of which will be organized as early as 20-21 October. The conference will be dedicated to the former presidents of Croatia’s largest cultural institution.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the operation and financing of Matica Hrvatska, with President Gavran pointing out that Matica Hrvatska began to be financed through donations. He expressed hope that Croatian businesspeople would become even more involved in financing the work of the institution. At the meeting, President Milanović also exchanged views on current affairs with the leadership of Matica Hrvatska.

Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Culture Zdravko Zima was alongside President Milanović at the meeting.
