At Start of New School Year President Milanović Meets with Fifteenth Gymnasium Pupils who Participated and Received Awards in International Competitions

At the start of the new school year, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received pupils from the Fifteenth Gymnasium in Zagreb, and congratulated them on their achievements in international competitions.

In the Office of the President of the Republic were pupils who took part in the 29th Central European Olympiad in Informatics – CEOI 2022, which was held from 24 to 20 July 2022 in Varaždin under the auspices of the President of the Republic. At the meeting with President Milanović were gold medal winners Dorijan Lendvaj and Patrick Pavić, bronze medal winners Marko Dorčić and Fran Babić, Olympiad participant Ivan Janjić as well as the Fifteenth Gymnasium principal and CEOI 2022 programme coordinator Nikola Dmitrović and the president of the CEOI 2022 Scientific Committee Ivan Paljak.

In addition to the Olympiad in Informatics team at the meeting with President Milanović were pupils of the Fifteenth Gymnasium who participated in international knowledge olympiads in biology, physics, math and geography and equivalent international competitions in robotics.

Those are participants of the 34th International Olympiad in Informatics – IOI 2022, Indonesia (online in the Fifteenth Gymnasium), gold medal winners Dorijan Lendvaj and Patrick Pavić, bronze medal winner Matej Vojvodić and honourable mention Ivan Janjić; participants of the 18th International Geography Olympiad – 2022 iGeo – Paris (online at Faculty of Science) silver medal winner Luka Protulipac and bronze medal winner Andrej Nikšić; participants of the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad – IMO 2022 – Oslo, silver medal winner Bernard Inkret, bronze medal winner Namik Agić, Patrick Pavić  and Janko Bušelić and honourable mention Dorijan Lendvaj; bronze medal winner at the 52nd International Physics Olympiad – IPHO 2022 – Switzerland (online at Faculty of Science) Roko Šupe; participants in the 33rd International Biology Olympiad– IBO – 2022 Yerevan, bronze medal winner Barbara Jozić and Olympiad participants Adrian Grbac Lacković and Suzana Škrabalo; including a team of pupils that won third place in the RoboCup 2022 competition – Bangkok Antonio Dijanić, Dora Dijanić, Ivan Dijanić and Borut Patčev.

The Olympiad teams were instructed by mentors from the Faculty of Science in Zagreb Matija Bašić, and Andreja Lucić, and one of the mentors of the robotics teams and member of the Fifteenth Gymnasium School Council Lovrek Dijanić, who also attended the meeting with President Milanović. President Milanović congratulated the pupils on their achievements and told them they are doing something great for Croatia, even though it is a small country, it proves that it can be competitive in knowledge. At the meeting they also discussed the importance of holding in-person classes. The principal of the Fifteenth Gymnasium said that “nothing can replace in-person classes, which was demonstrated by the results of preparations for the competitions that were held in-person with greater motivation”. 

After the meeting the participants of the 2022 RoboCup presented their award-winning robots to President Milanović and proudly announced that the European competition in robots will be held for the first time in Croatia, which is further proof that Croatian pupils are competitive in robotics even today.

Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education Jadranka Žarković.
