President Milanović at Support Command 20th Anniversary Ceremony
The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović attended the 20th anniversary ceremony marking the establishment of Support Command of the Croatian Armed Forces at the 1st Guards Brigade Tigers Barracks in Zagreb.
“You are the service in the army that the general public understands the least and appreciates disproportionately given the importance of the jobs and tasks you perform,” President Milanović told members of the Support Command, adding that logistics specialists in the army are people who set the groundwork for those who fight and win. “You live and work in such a shadow. In the war in Ukraine, we also see the importance of logistics, support and how perilous this work is, in which resources are lost, but people as well,” the President added.
President Milanović believes that the task of Croatian politics and the political leadership is, in his words, “to invest in you all the time, continuously and smartly, in a targeted and focused manner, and to never bring you and other Croatian citizens and people into peril of this kind. In other words, so you never really need to show what you know and can do.”
The President said that the war in Ukraine also has some messages for those who want to watch and learn. He noted that resources are limited in this context. “One must be careful and weigh very well what is being procured and in what quantity because, as I said, resources, money and people are limited. So even when decisions are made about the procurement of combat systems, it is better to weigh things several times and then make cuts, and only make a decision in the end and see what we can really afford and pay for, and most importantly – in case of undesirable developments – what will benefit us more in the end,” President Milanović underscored, concluding that this is a topic that the military profession, politics and ultimately the Croatian Parliament must constantly take into consideration.
On the anniversary of the establishment of the Support Command, the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović, the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Admiral Robert Hranj and the Commander of Support Command Lieutenant General Mladen Fuzul handed out promotions, commendations and awards to members of the Support Command.
Attending the anniversary ceremony in the company of President Milanović were the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic Bartol Šimunić, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defence and National Security Dragan Lozančić and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković.
