President Milanović Receives Croatian Students’ Council Leadership

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today in the Office of the President with members of the Croatian Students’ Council and the new leadership of this student umbrella organization. The chair of the Croatian Students’ Council has been assumed by the Students’ Council of the University of Rijeka and its president Neven Pintarić.

The Croatian Students’ Council is a coordinating body of all students’ councils in the Republic of Croatia and at the same time the umbrella representative body of students from universities, polytechnics and colleges in the Republic of Croatia. According to its president, the Croatian Students’ Council represents somewhere about 160 thousand students and its object is twofold: representation of students and commitment to students in higher education institutions, and implementation of projects that are of interest to the student population.

At the meeting with President Milanović, current and future projects of the Croatian Students’ Council were presented. They noted their concern about amendments to the Law on Scientific Activity and Higher Education that could marginalize the role of student representatives in the Senate and the students’ standard in terms of student nutrition. They also discussed a number of topics that are vital to the student population and youth in Croatia such as the reasons why young people are leaving, and the quality of studying in Croatia. Furthermore, they warned that tertiary education has still not been sufficiently recognized in the Croatian public as a major part of higher education. Representatives of the Croatian Students’ Council are hopeful that their meeting with the President of the Republic will help address topics of interest to the student population in the public.

In the delegation of the Croatian Students’ Council were the president Neven Pintarić, vice-president Ivan-Pavao Boras, members Višeslav Kirinić, Tomislav Milošević, Tin Meštrović, Filip Marinović, Antonela Đuraš, Mirko Filipović, Luka Jurčević, Leopold Mandić, member of the European Students’ Union Bruna Bandula and Council secretary Slobodan Šolaja.

Alongside President Milanovića was the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković.
